How Many Stacking Rings Should You Wear?
Two to five is the sweet spot. Two rings look considered; three is the classic curated stack; four or five on one finger only works when the bands are slim. If a stack starts to look heavy, move a ring to another finger - that's the whole point of stackable rings.
How to Keep Stacking Rings from Spinning
A stack that rotates round to the back of your finger is the most common complaint, and it almost always has one of three causes. Fix the cause and it stops.
- The base ring is too loose. A stack follows the tightest ring in it, so if the bottom band is half a size too big, everything above it drifts. Size for the base ring, not for the middle of the stack.
- Every band is the same width. Identical smooth bands slide past each other. Mix the widths — one 1.5mm band next to a 3mm band catches where two 2mm bands would not.
- Every band is smooth. Add one textured band (hammered, twisted, beaded) and it grips its neighbours. This is the cheapest fix and it usually works on its own.
If it still moves, drop from three rings to two. Three is the comfortable maximum on one finger, and a two-ring stack almost never spins.
How to Size Stacking Rings
Sizing a stack is different from sizing a single ring, because the width of the stack changes how the finger feels inside it.
- Size to the widest band in the stack. A wide band needs a slightly larger size than a thin one on the same finger. If you size to the thin band, the wide one will pinch.
- Measure in the late afternoon. Fingers are smallest first thing in the morning and swell through the day and in warm weather. A ring measured at 7am will feel tight by 4pm.
- If you are between sizes, go up. You can always add a thin band to take up slack, but you cannot make a tight stack comfortable.
- Remember a stack sits higher on the finger than one ring. If the height bothers you, spread the same three rings across two fingers instead of one.
